Biography

Before choosing a career in physics and astronomy teaching, Adriane Steinacker worked at NASA Ames Research Center and published research in space physics, planet formation, and magnetohydrodynamics of accretion disks. She has taught a wide variety of undergraduate courses at different levels, including History of Astronomy, Astrobiology, and Solar System Dynamics. Currently, she teaches Yale's Physics 180/181 sequence and has also taught a course on Scientific Communication for Physicists. Her excellence in teaching has been recognized with several awards, including the UC Santa Cruz Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007, the Ron Ruby Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2015, and Yale's Poorvu Family Fund Academic Innovation Award in 2019. In her professional life, Adriane is also an avid swimmer and gardener.
