Biography

Adrienne Stiff-Roberts is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. She earned her B.S. degree in Physics from Spelman College and her B.E.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999. Later, she obtained her M.S.E. in Electrical Engineering in 2001 and her Ph.D. in Applied Physics in 2004 from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her research involves the synthesis of multi-component hybrid (organic-inorganic) materials, utilizing novel approaches such as organic-based thin film deposition that combines solution and vacuum processing techniques. She is known for her work with emulsion-based resonant infrared matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation (RIR-MAPLE), which offers innovative ways to integrate new functions into organic-based films and devices. Her research efforts focus on materials synthesis and characterization, investigating fundamental mechanisms of thin-film growth and employing device fabrication and characterization for a broad range of applications, especially in optoelectronic energy devices.
