Dr. Adrienne Withall

Biography

Adrienne Withall is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), leading the Brain Health Equity Lab and Ageing Margins group within the School of Psychology. With over 68 journal publications and an h-index of 30, she focuses her research on young onset dementia, particularly among priority populations at risk of accelerated cognitive decline, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and individuals involved in the justice system. She employs mixed methods to translate her research into practice and policy, ensuring that interventions consider under-served populations. As a chief investigator on several NHMRC-funded studies, Adrienne investigates the cognitive health of older citizens and develops digital tools for assessment in justice settings. She is actively involved in numerous professional groups, including the Australian Young Onset Dementia Special Interest Group and the International Indigenous Dementia Research Network, advocating for better healthcare policies for young individuals experiencing dementia. Furthermore, she supervises postgraduate students at UNSW, teaching courses related to mental health and dementia, and previously taught at the University of Sydney.
