Dr. Afifi Al Akiti

Biography

Afifi al-Akiti is a lecturer at the Islamic Centre, Faculty of Theology and Religion, University of Oxford. His academic work primarily focuses on Islamic theology and philosophy, particularly exploring the influences of al-Ghazali, a notable theologian of the Islamic world, on the Greek philosophical tradition. Al-Akiti's research delves into the relationship between science and religion within the Islamic context, especially concerning the reception of rational sciences in the kalam tradition and the madrasa culture. He has a keen interest in Muslim law, particularly the Shafi'i school, and in historical texts such as medieval Arabic manuscripts and Moroccan religious lithographs. Additionally, he investigates medieval Islamic astronomy. His general interests include medieval philosophy and theology, with specific focus on scholars like Aquinas and Maimonides, as well as Scriptural Reasoning and the cultural heritage of Nusantara.
