Biography

In 2011, AFM Saiful Islam completed his doctoral studies in Bayesian Statistics at Queen Mary University of London. He subsequently undertook a two-year postdoctoral research teaching associate position at Imperial College London. His academic journey has led him to esteemed national and international institutions, culminating in his joining University College London's Queen Square Institute of Neurology in 2017. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor in Medical Statistics at the institute. Dr. Islam plays pivotal roles as the Module Lead for Research Methods and Introduction to Statistics, teaching core statistical concepts to MSc Neuroscience students. He also supervises MSc and PhD candidates, guiding their research and academic development. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Islam consults on a wide range of research projects within the Faculty of Brain Sciences and beyond. His research interests are centered around advancing statistical methodologies in neuroscience, particularly in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. Current projects include optimizing Alzheimer’s disease classification using artificial neural networks, applying Bayesian utility theory for personalized biomarker evaluation using plasma neurofilament light, and conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses on dementia-related conditions.
