Biography

Professor Agnes Görlach explores the biology of oxygen, focusing on the role of hypoxia, reactive oxygen species, and oxidative stress in developing adult organisms. Professor Görlach studied medicine in Munich and Bochum, and business administration in Augsburg and Hagen. She completed her doctoral thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund and conducted research at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, USA, and the University of Zurich. In 2001, she acquired a postdoctoral teaching qualification in physiology from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt. She subsequently assumed leadership of the Department of Experimental Paediatric Cardiology at the German Heart Centre Munich at the Technical University of Munich. She was a guest professor at the University of Aix-Marseilles in 2009 and has served as the principal investigator at the German Center of Cardiovascular Research since 2011. In 2009, she became a professor of Experimental Molecular Pediatric Cardiology at TUM.
