Biography

Agnese Sile is a Lecturer in Design Screen Cultures at the Edinburgh College of Art. She holds a BA Hons in Graphic Media Design from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts, London, and an MSc in Research Interdisciplinary Creative Practices from the University of Edinburgh. She completed her PhD in Modern Thought at the University of Aberdeen in November 2016, with a thesis titled 'Space Love Photographic Essays Illness Narratives', exploring the knowledge contained within photographic essays produced by professional photographers and writers since the mid-1980s. Her recent research interests focus on New Materialism, critical posthuman disability studies, and visual illness narratives. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates visual culture studies, art history, phenomenology, anthropology, digital media, and medical humanities, addressing the ethics of visual representations and the meanings embedded in the photographic act. Published works include book chapters and journal articles that investigate the interplay between visual narratives and medical experiences, having presented her research at multiple conferences internationally. She supervises PhD students on topics related to visual illness narratives and the ethics of medical representation.
