Dr. Agnethe Bennedsgaard

Biography

Agnethe Brounbjerg Bennedsgaard is a PhD student at Aarhus University focusing on the intersection of the climate crisis with speculative fiction and feminist theory. Her research investigates how new narrative structures emerge in response to climate breakdown, delving into contemporary translated hybrid climate literature from Latin America and East Asia. She explores how these narratives use discomfort and alienation to address the often-overlooked consequences of the climate crisis, highlighting the unequal impact of capitalism, sexism, and colonialism. Bennedsgaard's methodology encompasses planetary comparativism, enabling diverse connections through literary analysis. As a member of the Centre for Environmental Humanities at Aarhus University and an active participant in various research networks, she engages in public discourse and teaching on contemporary literature, literary genres, and feminist theory. Her teaching encompasses eco-horror from Latin America and South Korean feminist speculative fiction, fostering discussions around affect theory and comparative methods in world literature.
