Biography

Alongside his role at the Saïd Business School, Agni is a Fellow in Management Studies at Exeter College and a visiting scholar at the Harvard Kennedy School. His research agenda primarily focuses on developing new methods and models for healthcare practitioners using data-driven techniques, particularly studying the implications of models in automated decision making, which lays the foundations for a novel field of algorithmic insurance. Prior to joining Oxford, Agni earned his PhD in Operations Research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and gained valuable industry experience at McKinsey & Company. He holds a BSc in Management Science and Technology from Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece. Agni’s expertise spans business analytics, digital operations, healthcare operations, algorithmic insurance, and personalized medicine. His research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning and optimization with applications in healthcare and insurance. He has developed algorithms to address major data imperfections commonly found in real-world datasets, aiming to improve patient care and hospital operations, particularly in the context of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and Covid-19. Agni leads the Data Driven Decisions Lab (3DL), which aims to tackle the challenge of machine learning models impacting real-world decision-making by partnering with industry and academic organizations.
