Dr. Agripino Silveira

Biography

Agripino S. Silveira is an Advanced Lecturer at the Stanford Language Center, with a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of New Mexico. His research focuses on subject expression in Brazilian Portuguese. He has made significant contributions to field linguistics and has authored notable publications, including the co-authored "Modern Brazilian Portuguese Grammar". Beyond his scholarly work, Agripino has a rich teaching history, having been a faculty member at Middlebury Language Schools and an ESL instructor at the University of New Mexico. He has held administrative roles such as co-chair of the Portuguese Special Interest Group, and has coordinated pronunciation courses. Agripino also serves as a rater for Oral Proficiency Interviews and Written Proficiency Tests in Portuguese. His professional affiliations include the American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese, the American Portuguese Studies Association, the Linguistic Society of America, and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
