Ahad Rahim is a Professor of Translational Neuroscience and the Wellcome Chair at the UCL School of Pharmacy, University College London. He leads a research department focused on studying the spectrum of lethal and debilitating rare pediatric neurodegenerative disorders with the goal of developing novel therapies. His laboratory is engaged in the development and pre-clinical testing of biologics and advanced medicinal therapeutic products aimed at treating brain viral and non-viral mediated conditions. This includes gene therapy, GLP-1 based therapies, and small molecule drugs. Rahim collaborates closely with clinicians and regulators to translate new therapies from bench to bedside to benefit patients. His laboratory currently investigates rare diseases such as Niemann-Pick disease type C, Gaucher disease, PLA2G6-associated infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy, and Batten disease, as well as common conditions including Parkinson's disease and neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. He is a co-founder of the UCL GTx Neuro Gene Therapy Viral Vector Core Facility and a key figure in the UCL spin-off company, Bloomsbury Genetic Therapies.
