Dr. Ahilan Arulanantham

Biography

Ahilan T. Arulanantham is a Professor of Practice at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, where he co-directs the Center for Immigration Law and Policy. He has an extensive litigation practice focused on immigrants’ rights and has successfully litigated several landmark cases, including in the Supreme Court. Ahilan has testified before the U.S. Congress and held lecturer positions at the University of Chicago Law School and the University of California, Irvine School of Law. His passion for human rights is deeply influenced by his family's history as Sri Lankan Tamil immigrants. Prior to joining UCLA, he served as Senior Counsel at the ACLU of Southern California and was an Assistant Federal Public Defender in El Paso, Texas. Throughout his career, Ahilan has received multiple accolades for his work, including being named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow and receiving the Arthur C. Helton Human Rights Award. His research interests encompass immigration law, due process rights, and humanitarian legal reform, with numerous publications in prestigious legal journals and media outlets.
