Biography

Dr. Ahmed Youssri Elruby earned a bachelor's degree in mechatronics from Arab Academy Science, Technology & Maritime Transport in 2009. He then pursued a master's degree focusing on Intelligent Control of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles at the same institution, completing it in 2012. Dr. Elruby relocated to Newfoundland and Labrador in 2015 to undertake his PhD at Memorial University, where his thesis focused on the mechanical behavior, multiscale modeling, and failure predictions of materials utilizing both linear and nonlinear finite element analysis. Following his PhD, he held a postdoctoral fellowship in the departments of Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. His research spans several multidisciplinary fields, with a primary focus on mechanical characterization and failure predictions. Among his notable research highlights are the Strain Energy Density (SED) failure criterion framework applied to the eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM) and extending the Ramberg-Osgood relationship to account for metal porosity in aged steel characterization, particularly from materials with over 40 years of Arctic service.
