Biography

Ahmed Ghoniem is the Ronald C. Crane Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the Center for Energy Propulsion Research at MIT. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Cairo University, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on computational engineering applications, including turbulence, combustion, multiphase flow, and clean energy technologies, particularly in CO2 capture and renewable energy. He has made significant contributions to multiscale simulations, thermochemistry, and combustion dynamics, and has supervised over 100 graduate students. With over 500 refereed articles, he has lectured internationally and consulted for sectors including aerospace, automotive, and energy. Dr. Ghoniem is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Combustion Institute, and he has received multiple prestigious awards, including the ASME James Harry Potter Award and the AIAA Propellant Combustion Award. He is currently involved in leading initiatives to enhance energy research and education in Egypt.
