Dr. Ahmed Hassan

Biography

Ahmed E. Hassan is a Canada Research Chair in Software Analytics and an NSERC/RIM Industrial Research Chair in Software Engineering at the School of Computing, Queen's University. He has played a pivotal role in establishing the Mining Software Repositories (MSR) conference and its associated research community. Dr. Hassan has co-edited special issues of notable journals, such as the IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering and Empirical Software Engineering, focusing on the topic of MSR. His early tools and techniques have been integrated into products that are utilized by millions of users worldwide. With vast industrial experience, Dr. Hassan has contributed to the architecture of the Blackberry wireless platform while at RIM, and has worked with IBM Research at the Almaden Research Lab and the Computer Research Lab at Nortel Networks. He holds patents in multiple jurisdictions including the United States, Europe, India, Canada, and Japan. Dr. Hassan earned his Ph.D., MMath, and BMath degrees from the School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
