Biography

Ahmed Tiamiyu joined the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary as an Associate Professor in September 2021. He is a former Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he served as a board member for the MIT Postdoctoral Association. He holds a PhD and MSc in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Materials Science from the University of Saskatchewan, and a BSc in Metallurgical Materials Engineering from the University of Lagos. Tiamiyu is known for his research in understanding processing-structure-property-performance relationships of materials, emphasizing materials synthesis and optimization to improve performance under extreme service conditions. He is developing the Materials Processing Performance (MaPP) Lab at the University of Calgary, which is focused on various projects pertinent to his expertise. His research areas include metallurgy, high-entropy alloy design, additive manufacturing, and corrosion resistance, among others.
