Dr. Ahmed Toosy

Biography

Ahmed Toosy is a distinguished Professor of Neurology specializing in Neuroinflammation at University College London (UCL). He completed his early education at Whitgift School in Surrey before pursuing Medicine at Trinity College, Cambridge, and then St George's Hospital Medical School in London, where he earned his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery in 1994. His academic career was highlighted by a PhD in Neurological Sciences from UCL, focusing on neuroplasticity and recovery mechanisms associated with neural injury, specifically within visual system research models. He has held multiple academic positions, including HEFCE Clinical Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor, and was appointed as a Professor in 2020. In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Toosy is an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital, where he specializes in Neuro-ophthalmology and has been with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery since 2009. His extensive training includes general medical professional training and specialist neurology training. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and has contributed significantly to his field, aiming to improve health outcomes as part of the Sustainable Development Goals.
