Dr. Ahmet Baschat

Biography

Ahmet Alexander Baschat serves as a Professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins University. He is the Director of the Center for Fetal Therapy and has an extensive background in maternal-fetal medicine. Dr. Baschat's expertise encompasses prenatal diagnosis and therapy for a wide range of fetal conditions, including congenital diaphragmatic hernia, intrauterine growth restriction, and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). He received his undergraduate medical degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and earned his doctorate in medicine from the University of Lübeck. Following his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University of Maryland Medical Center, he completed his fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2014, previously serving as the professor and director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine Section Fetal Therapy at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His research focuses on interventions and management techniques for fetal growth restriction and placental insufficiency, employing high-resolution prenatal ultrasound and Doppler fetal echocardiography to predict and detect fetal complications. He is actively involved in multiple professional organizations, including the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is recognized with several awards for his contributions to maternal-fetal medicine.
