Dr. Ahmet Urkmez

Biography

Ahmet Urkmez, MD, is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and an attending urologist at Boston Medical Center in Brighton. He specializes in robotic minimally invasive surgery, treatment of kidney stones, benign urologic conditions, and management of benign prostatic hyperplasia. After earning his medical degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Urkmez completed his urology residency and pursued advanced training in robotic surgery at the ORSI Robotic Surgery Institute in Belgium. He completed a two-year clinical fellowship in robotic urologic reconstructive surgery at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston. Prior to joining Boston University, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, focusing his research on prostate cancer. Dr. Urkmez has held leadership positions in the European Association of Urology’s Young Urologists and Young Academic Urologists groups. An active clinical researcher, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and international presentations covering topics such as prostate cancer, reconstructive urology, endourology, and men’s health. At Boston University, his clinical practice focuses on robotic surgery for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer; kidney stone management; minimally invasive treatment of urinary tract conditions; benign prostatic hyperplasia; and complex reconstructive procedures. He remains committed to surgical innovation, multidisciplinary cancer care, and mentoring future urologists.
