Biography

Ahsan Akram is currently a Clinician Scientist and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, as well as an Honorary Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at NHS Lothian. He graduated in Medicine in 2005 and completed his PhD on Optical Imaging in 2015. In 2017, he established his own research theme focusing on stromal biology and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) imaging as part of the Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist Fellowship, which was followed by the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship in 2024. His research aims to advance the field of translational research in NSCLC by exploring how the tumor microenvironment influences tumor progression and patient outcomes. Ahsan employs advanced imaging technologies, optical imaging, fluorescence lifetime imaging, and molecular imaging techniques to understand tumor biology and improve diagnostic strategies. He has responsibilities including serving as an academic representative and is involved with various committees within the medical community.
