Biography

Aida Andres is an evolutionary population geneticist who investigates how populations evolve and adapt to their environment. She is the Director of the UCL Genetics Institute (UGI) at University College London (UCL), where she focuses on the intersection of genetics, evolution, and environment. Aida obtained her PhD from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona under the supervision of Professor Jaume Bertranpetit. Her postdoctoral experience includes positions at Cornell University and the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH. In 2010, she launched her own research group at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany, under the direction of Professor Svante Paabo. Aida has held various trust and academic positions, including Associate Editor for Genome Biology and Evolution, and she is a member of the BBSRC Pool of Experts. Her involvement in the academic community includes leading the London Centre for Ecology and Evolution and serving as an external examiner at the University of Sussex. Aida is committed to advancing the field of evolutionary genomics, with a focus on genetic adaptation and the processes that have allowed humans to colonize diverse environments across the globe.
