Biography

Aidan Michael Hollis is a Professor at the University of Calgary and serves as the Interim Department Head. He has received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Toronto in 1996, and has a strong background in both economics and English Literature, with an M.A. in Economics also from the University of Toronto and another M.A. from the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on pharmaceutical markets, innovation, and policies related to competition and pricing. He is particularly interested in improving access to medicines in lower-income countries, innovation in antibiotics, drugs for rare diseases, and generic drug pricing policies. Through his role as President of Incentives Global Health, Hollis has been involved in initiatives like the Health Impact Fund aimed at supporting innovation and access to medicines. He has previously worked on projects related to electricity markets and microfinance. His contributions to the field have been recognized with several awards, including the Innovation Policy Prize from the Office of Health Economics and a fellowship at Yale University’s Global Justice Program. He has also been awarded the IPAC Canada Editorial Award in 2021 and has held the position of Associate Professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Pharmacy.
