Dr. Aijaz Ahmed

Biography

Aijaz Ahmed is an internationally recognized hepatologist with expertise in the treatment of acute and chronic liver diseases. He is a board-certified specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology, transplant hepatology, and obesity medicine. Currently, Dr. Ahmed serves as the Medical Director of the Adult Liver Transplant Program at Stanford University. He graduated from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Brown University in Providence, RI, followed by fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Stanford University, where he focused on clinical research in General Transplant Hepatology. Dr. Ahmed is dedicated to creating personalized and compassionate treatment plans for his patients. He has been instrumental in establishing a wide network of hepatology outreach clinics in remote and underserved regions of California and Nevada. Committed to education, he actively mentors trainees and received teaching awards throughout his career. His research interests include a multidisciplinary approach to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the management of chronic liver disease, and improving screening for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). He leads a productive outcomes research team and collaborates with basic scientists on translational research projects. Dr. Ahmed has published extensively in high-profile medical journals and presented his findings at national and international conferences, earning recognition within the academic community.
