Biography

Aila Trasi is a Teaching Fellow specializing in International Political Economy at the University of Warwick. She completed her PhD in Political Science at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, USA, with an expected graduation in July 2025. During the 2024/25 academic year, she will be a visiting researcher at Goethe University in Frankfurt, focusing on her dissertation titled 'Making State Projects: Analyzing Embedded Neoliberal Transitions in Malaysia and Thailand'. Her research examines the evolving relationship between states, markets, and society in the Global South through a Neo-Gramscian lens. Aila is particularly interested in the interaction between domestic bureaucrats and International Organizations, as well as the inner workings of 'pathological' bureaucracies. In her teaching role for the 2025/26 academic year, she will be leading courses on foundational topics in Political Economy and World Politics, and she is available to supervise undergraduate dissertations on subjects related to her research interests, including Public Policy in the Global South, Postcolonial and Decolonial approaches to Development, Politics Measurement, and critiques of Economic Growth.
