Dr. Aimée Classen

Biography

Aimée Classen is a Professor and Director at the University of Michigan's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Since 2020, she has served as the Director of the University of Michigan Biological Station, where she provides leadership and drives transformative research that benefits ecosystems and society. Classen's research focuses on ecosystem ecology, global change, nutrient and carbon cycling, and plant-soil interactions. She has also held positions at institutions such as the University of Vermont and the University of Copenhagen, contributing to her extensive experience in the field. Dr. Classen is recognized as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for her significant contributions to ecological research and collaborative efforts. She is also a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America, acknowledging her creative leadership and outstanding service in the discipline. Originally from Kinston, North Carolina, she developed her passion for ecology in her youth, drawing from her experiences in nature. Her lab is committed to exploring ecosystem functionality and the interactions between biotic and abiotic factors.
