Dr. Aino Suomi

Biography

Aino Suomi is a researcher and director at the Centre for Gambling Research at the Australian National University. With a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Melbourne and a Master's degree from the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland, her research interests are primarily focused on problem gambling, harm, psychiatric epidemiology, and the socio-economic factors associated with gambling. She has extensively studied risk factors related to gambling, including PTSD, child protection, and family welfare, and has worked on various projects aimed at improving mental health services for children in foster care and preventing gambling harm among young people. Aino's active engagement in research includes supervising students and collaborating on multi-faceted projects that seek to address critical issues at the intersection of mental health and gambling. Her work contributes significantly to understanding the impact of gambling on families and developing evidence-based prevention programs for public health.
