Biography

Aisha S. Dickerson is an environmental neuroepidemiologist whose primary research interests focus on environmental risk factors associated with neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Specifically, Dr. Dickerson investigates the combined impacts of environmental and occupational exposures over the life course, and their subsequent effects on neurological outcomes including autism spectrum disorder, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and dementia. Before earning her BS and MSPH, she worked with the Jefferson County Department of Health, contributing to emergency response efforts after Hurricane Katrina and during the H1N1 pandemic. Following her postdoctoral training at the Environmental Protection Agency and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Dr. Dickerson's current research examines the joint effects of environmental and psychosocial stressors in under-resourced communities. She is the principal investigator of a NIEHS-funded study that explores gene-environment interactions related to parental occupational exposures and the risk of autism in offspring, as well as ongoing studies utilizing data from the National Health Aging Trends Study and the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes project.
