Biography

Aisulu Aitbekova is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Her research focuses on developing catalytic processes to make fuels and chemicals, specifically interested in coupling light and heat to drive chemical reactions in new and efficient ways. Aitbekova's expertise extends to the development of materials at the nanoscale, controlling the environment of materials at the microscale, and developing processes at the macroscale. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, and previously earned a master's degree in Chemical Engineering Practice from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan. Aitbekova was also a Kavli Nanoscience Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology.
