Biography

Aitor Aguirre is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan State University. He joined the university following a position at the University of California, San Diego, where he focused on large-scale metabolomics and functional genomics as applied to human cardiac regeneration and the development of disease states. Dr. Aguirre holds a B.S. in Biology and an M.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of the Basque Country in Spain. His research interests are centered on utilizing metabolomic approaches to understand cardiac health and disease, as well as the fundamental mechanisms underlying tissue regeneration.
