Dr. Ajay Mehrotra

Biography

Ajay K. Mehrotra is the Stanford Clinton Sr. Zylpha Kilbride Clinton Research Professor of Law at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and an Affiliated Professor of History at Northwestern University. He also serves as the Executive Director of the American Bar Foundation, an independent, non-profit research institute focusing on the empirical interdisciplinary study of law. His research primarily explores the intersection of law and political economy from a historical and comparative perspective, with particular attention to tax law and fiscal policy. Mehrotra has authored significant works such as 'Making Modern American Fiscal State: Law, Politics, Rise Progressive Taxation, 1877-1929' and co-edited several influential publications. His scholarly work has been featured in leading history journals and various news outlets. He has held various academic roles, including associate dean for research at Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where he has taught American legal history and tax policy.
