Biography

Ajeet Rohatgi received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1971, his M.S. in Materials Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1973, and his Ph.D. in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Lehigh University in 1977. He joined the Westinghouse Research Development Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1977 as a Westinghouse Fellow, working on photovoltaic microelectronic devices. In 1985, Dr. Rohatgi joined the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he started a program in photovoltaics, becoming a nationally recognized leader in the field. He is the founding director of the University Center of Excellence in Photovoltaic Research and Education, a DOE-supported center. Dr. Rohatgi has authored more than 300 publications and holds 10 U.S. patents. He has received numerous distinctions and awards from professional societies, including being named a Westinghouse Fellow and receiving the Georgia Tech Distinguished Professor Award, the William Cherry Award from the IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference, and the Thomas D. Callinan Award from the Electrochemical Society.
