Biography

Ajit Tamhane is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University, holding a courtesy appointment in Statistics. He previously served as the Chairman of the IEMS Department from 2001 to 2008 and as Senior Associate Dean of the McCormick School of Engineering from 2008 to 2018. He earned his BTech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and his MS and PhD in Statistics and Operations Research from Cornell University. His research interests include statistical multiple testing procedures and design of experiments, particularly addressing multiplicity issues in clinical trials and medical studies. Tamhane has published over 100 papers in leading refereed journals and authored several books, including 'Multiple Comparison Procedures' and 'Statistical Analysis of Designed Experiments.' He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the International Statistical Institute. Tamhane received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Bombay in 2017.
