Biography

Ajmal Hussain is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Warwick, having joined the faculty in December 2020. Prior to this, he was a Research Fellow in Sociology at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester and degrees in Politics and History from Brunel University and SUNY Brockport, as well as in Race and Ethnic Relations from Birkbeck, University of London. Ajmal has held visiting fellowships at LSE Cities and Aston University, focusing on urban cultural sociology and the impact of Muslim culture in contemporary European postcolonial societies. His research interests include the South Asian diaspora, migration, multiculturalism, racism, resistance, and urban politics within the context of governmentality and biopolitics. Ajmal is the Principal Investigator on multiple EU-funded research projects in the UK, examining issues such as spatial inequality through an intersectional lens.
