Dr. Akhil Amar

Biography

Akhil Reed Amar is a Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University. He teaches constitutional law at Yale Law School and Yale College and is known for his work in the field of American constitutional history. Amar graduated summa cum laude from Yale College in 1980 and received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1984. He began his academic career at Yale in 1985 and has had a significant impact on legal scholarship, being recognized as one of the most-cited legal scholars in the United States. His books include 'The Bill of Rights' and 'America's Constitution,' each of which has received critical acclaim and numerous awards. Amar is also active in public discourse, having contributed to major publications and appeared on various media platforms. Additionally, he co-hosts a podcast titled 'Amarica’s Constitution,' which allows listeners to earn continuing legal education credit. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and continues to influence both legal practice and public understanding of constitutional law through his extensive writing and speaking engagements.
