Dr. Akhil Kumar

Biography

Akhil Kumar is a Professor at the Smeal College of Business, Penn State University, where he has been a faculty member since June 2002. He holds a Ph.D. in Business with a focus on Information Systems from the University of California, Berkeley. Kumar has previously been part of the faculties at Cornell University and the University of Colorado, and has spent a sabbatical year conducting research at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ. As an accomplished researcher, he has published over 125 papers in academic journals and international conferences. He has received several accolades including the Fulbright Scholar Award for 2022-2023 and was selected as the Faculty Marshal for the Smeal College of Business during Penn State's Fall 2020 Commencement. Kumar has a strong editorial background, currently serving as an associate editor for the ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, and has previously held editorial positions for IEEE Transactions on Services Computing and the INFORMS Journal on Computing. His extensive collaboration with international researchers highlights his contributions to various academic fields. Kumar's significant work includes publishing a book on Business Process Management in 2018, aimed at aligning organizational processes with market demands, blending current research focus with practical examples for graduate students.
