Biography

Akhila Chawla is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). She holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting) from the Schulich School of Business at York University, as well as an MBA from the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University and a Bachelor of Commerce. With substantial industry experience, Dr. Chawla has worked in various financial roles, including Senior Financial Analyst and Manager in the fields of Investment Banking and Private Equity. Her teaching expertise includes both introductory and advanced financial accounting courses. Dr. Chawla's research interests focus on social accounting and accountability, management accounting, management control systems, and governance in governmental and non-profit organizations. She has been actively involved in organizing conferences on Critical Perspectives in Accounting and has presented her work at the Accounting & Accountability Emerging Economies Conference at the University of Essex, where she received “The Emerging Paper Award” for her presentation on social audit and accounting accountability.
