Biography

Akhilesh Gaharwar is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He also holds the Tim Amy Leach Professorship and is a Presidential Impact Fellow. Gaharwar is affiliated with the Materials Science & Engineering. His research focuses on biomaterials, regenerative medicine, cancer bioengineering, drug delivery, genomics data science, and 3D bioprinting. Dr. Gaharwar completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue University in 2011. Over the years, he has received numerous recognitions including the Director's New Innovator Award from the National Institutes of Health and the Young Investigator Award from Biomaterials. He has also been honored with the Engineering Excellence Award from Texas A&M University and multiple awards from the Biomedical Engineering Society for his contributions to the field. Gaharwar is actively involved in professional societies, serving as a Senior member of the National Academy of Inventors and as a Fellow of both the Biomedical Engineering Society and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
