Dr. Akos Rona Tas

Biography

Akos Rona-Tas received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and is a professor at the University of California, San Diego. His research primarily focuses on economic sociology, risk and uncertainty, rational choice theory, and statistical survey methodology. Rona-Tas is known for his contributions to understanding consumer credit markets, particularly in emerging economies, and the societal implications of algorithmic expert predictions. He has authored several influential works, including 'Plastic Money: Constructing Markets for Credit Cards in Eight Postcommunist Countries' and has published articles in leading journals such as the American Journal of Sociology and the American Sociological Review. As the Chief Editor of the Socio-Economic Review, he continues to engage with complex socio-economic issues and their theoretical implications.
