Biography

Originally from Bombay (Mumbai), India, Akshay Gupte completed his Bachelor's degree before moving to the USA for graduate studies. He has served as an Assistant Professor in Mathematical Sciences at Clemson University, where he was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor before moving to the University of Edinburgh in January 2020. His primary research interests revolve around theory, algorithms, and applications of nonconvex optimization, focusing significantly on convexification techniques for mixed-integer nonlinear and polynomial optimization problems. He also explores computational discrete mathematics, particularly the structural study of convex polytopes and graph theory. His research is influenced by applications in various fields, including engineering, transportation, quantitative finance, and game theory. Gupte has actively collaborated with agencies like abrdn Asset Management and the National Science Foundation, among others.
