Ala Jamal Zareini is a PhD fellow in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen and the Department of Nursing and Nutrition at University College Copenhagen. His work focuses on generating impactful knowledge that benefits individuals, particularly in the social healthcare sector. Zareini's research evaluates social health-promoting interventions and their effects on citizens with mental illness, those from refugee backgrounds, welfare professionals, relatives of patients, and administrative staff. His PhD project investigates the experiences of care workers, elderly Danes, and kin volunteers, examining the cooperative practices necessary to ensure good care amidst the increasing pressures facing Danish elder care. This research is informed by 11 months of ethnographic fieldwork conducted in nursing homes and homecare units in Copenhagen. Zareini's work sheds light on the ethical demands and organizational challenges posed by demographic, social, and economic changes in Denmark's welfare state, as well as the evolving nature of care. His PhD project is part of a larger research initiative titled 'Care Generations: Intergenerational Solidarity in Time of Demographic Change,' which is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark.
