Biography

Alaa Elwany is a Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, awarded in 2009. Elwany's research focuses on the modeling, analysis, and control of advanced manufacturing processes and systems, including additive manufacturing and the printability assessment of new materials and alloys. He also explores uncertainty quantification and data analytics in advanced manufacturing, as well as reliability engineering and maintenance optimization. Elwany has received numerous awards for his work, including the Science Technology Policy Fellowship from the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2022 and the Federal Fellow Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2021. He is also recognized for his contributions with various teaching excellence awards and the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation in 2019.
