Biography

Alain Gélinas has a multidisciplinary background in law and finance. From February 2004 to February 2014, he served successively as vice-president and president of the Bureau de décision et de révision, handling the majority of significant financial cases that have impacted Quebec in recent years. After his admission to the Bar in 1982, he continued to enhance his expertise in commercial law and finance. He earned a doctorate in law from the Université de Montréal in 1995 and holds various accreditations including Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Securities (FICVM), Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), and Certified Corporate Director (ASC). He has more than thirty years of experience in financial law, having worked at the Quebec Securities Commission in various roles: lawyer, chief of the director general's office, director of special projects and international relations, senior legal advisor, and head of legal and legislative services. Through these roles, he developed expertise in financial market law, commercial law, administrative law, and corporate law. In recent years, he taught commercial law, securities law, corporate financing, and corporate governance at the Faculty of Law at the Université de Montréal, also mentoring university interns and imparting knowledge to the next generation in Quebec.
