Alain Kaelin-Lang obtained his medical degree and PhD in Neuroscience from the Faculty of Medicine of Bern. He specialized in neurology at the University Hospitals of Zurich and Bern. From 1999 to 2001, he completed a fellowship in movement disorder neurophysiological research at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, MD. In 2004, he received the 'venia docendi' (PD) from the University of Bern and became an associate professor of neurology in 2012. He founded the Movement Disorders Center in the Neurology Department of the Insel Hospital in Bern in 2004, where he served as the scientific medical director of the Neurocenter of Southern Switzerland in Lugano since 2014. He has been a full professor at the biomedical faculty of the University of Southern Switzerland since 2017, conducting research programs focused on understanding levodopa-induced dyskinesia in Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. He also serves as the coordinator of the PhD program and is the faculty president of the Swiss Movement Disorders Society.
