Biography

Alain Lawo-Sukam is a Professor and Coordinator of the Africana Studies Program at Texas A&M University. He holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a focus on Hispanic Studies and Africana Studies, particularly in Afro-Hispanic literature and culture. Lawo-Sukam has authored several academic monographs including 'La literatura africana en castellano de los antiguos territorios españoles del Sahara Occidental y Marruecos' (2023) and 'La poesía de Guinea Ecuatorial en su contexto colonial y (trans)nacional' (2019). He has also written creative works such as 'Mange-Mil y sus historias de tierra caliente' (2017) and 'Sueño con África. Dream Africa. Rêve d’Afrique' (2013). His contributions to numerous national and international peer-reviewed journals demonstrate his commitment to advancing the fields of Hispanic Studies and Afro-Hispanic literature. Lawo-Sukam has received various grants and awards, including the Humanities & Arts Fellows program and the College-Level Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching. He serves on editorial boards and has been involved with the Executive Committee of the Modern Language Association. His research interests encompass Hispanic Studies, Latin American Literature and Culture, and Afro-Hispanic Studies.
