Biography

Alan Bocking is a Professor Emeritus in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Toronto, and an Associate Scientist at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Mount Sinai Hospital. He has held prominent positions such as the Past President of the Canadian Association of Academic Professionals in Obstetrics and Gynecology and has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. His research interests include the mechanisms underlying infection-mediated preterm labour, the role of the vaginal microbiome, and the developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD), along with the development of new diagnostic tests for preterm labour. Bocking has chaired the Ontario Birth Study Steering Committee at Mount Sinai Hospital and has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles. He has also contributed significantly to enhancing clinical care and research at Moi University in Kenya as the Founding Director of the Academic Model Providing Access to Health Care – Reproductive Health Program. Currently, he is the Vice-Chair of the Board of the Maternal Infant, Child Youth Research Network and serves as a Scientific Advisor for the Canadian Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Research Network.
