Biography

Dr. Alan Cheng is the Edward C. and Amy H. Sewall Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at Stanford University. He received his bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he graduated with distinction in research in otobiology. Dr. Cheng completed his residency in Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Washington, followed by a two-year NIH-sponsored research fellowship focused on hair cell degeneration and additional fellowship training in pediatric otolaryngology at Children's Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School. Since joining Stanford in 2007, he has established a clinical practice at the Stanford Ear Institute and conducts research aimed at restoring and protecting auditory function. His work has been funded by the NIH and the Department of Defense, among others, and his research interests include inner ear hair cell development and regeneration.
