Biography

Dr. Alan Fine is a Professor of Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep & Critical Care Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He earned his MD from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and carries a broad research focus on stem cells, injury repair, and lung development regeneration. His clinical interests are in general pulmonary medicine, where he provides care in the medical intensive care unit and pulmonary consult service at the Boston VA Medical Center. Fine is also an NIH-funded Principal Investigator and Director of the Stem Cell Biology Program at Boston University Pulmonary Center. His research has significantly advanced the understanding of lung stem/progenitor cells and their role in pulmonary diseases, including asthma and pulmonary hypertension. Dr. Fine's laboratory is heavily involved in identifying reparative progenitor cell populations and exploring the molecular basis of bronchial hyper-reactivity. He actively mentors graduate students and is a member of several research teams focused on translational and regenerative medicine applications in lung development and disease.
