Alan received his PhD in Engineering from the University of Sydney in 2010. He has worked as a consultant for startups developing technologies for personalizing audio in virtual reality and biomedical signal processing. After completing his PhD, he moved to the United States to work at the Waisman Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Research Associate and was later promoted to Assistant Scientist in 2015. At UW-Madison, he held a lecturer position in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders from 2013 to 2014. In 2019, he returned to Australia and is currently a lecturer in the School of Engineering at Macquarie University. He teaches digital systems units and has previously taught courses related to electroacoustic instrumentation and calibration for Doctorate of Audiology students. Alan is also an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research and has been a member of the Acoustical Society of America’s Psychological and Physiological Acoustics Technical Committee from 2018 to 2021. He is actively involved in reviewing for journals and conferences related to signal processing, audio engineering, and hearing research.
