Alan Klaus joined the faculty at Memorial University in 2012, previously serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Low Brass at Montana State University and as a Brass Specialist at Mount Allison University. Alan is a member of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, has toured China as Principal Trumpet of the American Festival Orchestra, and has performed with various ensembles including the Opera Avalon, Bozeman Symphony Orchestra, and Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. His ongoing pedagogical research focuses on developing a smartphone app to help musicians incorporate the benefits of contextual interference into their practice routines. A native of London, Ontario, Alan completed his doctorate at Florida State University under Dr. Christopher Moore, which included a treatise titled 'A Performer’s Guide to Canadian Works for Unaccompanied Trumpet and Trumpet with Piano.' His students have excelled in their professional careers, receiving full scholarships to leading graduate programs and winning numerous solo concerto competitions.
