Biography

Alan Leschied is a Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Education at Western University. He has been engaged in children's mental health since 1977, contributing his expertise to various children’s services and clinical settings, including the London Family Court Clinic. His extensive experience is evidenced through his roles on numerous boards, such as the Children’s Aid Society and the Canadian Council for Social Development. Leschied has been involved with organizations focused on children and corrections, notably serving as a founding member and research advisor to the International Prisons Corrections Association. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Psychology Association, recognized with the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Judge Wendy Robson Award for outstanding service to children in Ontario. He has also received a lifetime achievement award from the Criminal Justice Section of the Canadian Psychology Association. With a solid research background, Leschied has led multiple funded projects aimed at improving mental health services for children and adolescents, examining crucial areas such as foster care, youth justice, and the impact of violence on youth. He has authored and edited numerous publications regarding juvenile justice and youth rehabilitation, contributing significantly to both academic and practical fields in psychology and education.
